QCHS FFA Students Attend District Convention
District Convention grants FFA students from all schools in our district the opportunity to come together in a professional setting to build relationships with fellow FFA members. QCHS students attended the District FFA Convention this week, where they engaged in leadership activities, networked with peers, and represented Queen City with pride.
These experiences help prepare our students for future success by strengthening leadership skills, confidence, and collaboration. We are proud of our Bulldogs for their professionalism and involvement in FFA!

On Saturday, January 17th, 21 QCHS students competed in eight events at the Pine Tree High School “Jar of Dirt” Invitational, marking the team’s first meet of the season. The Bulldogs turned in a strong performance, returning home with seven medals.

Queen City ISD proudly celebrated the members of our Board of Trustees Monday night in honor of School Board Appreciation, though the truth is their dedication and service are valued every single day.
Students from J.K. Hileman Elementary were on hand to help make the evening special, presenting board members with books to be donated to the elementary library in their honor. First grader Zeke delighted everyone by reading Dragons Love Tacos, bringing smiles and laughter to the room.
Middle school students from MUMS shared oatmeal cream pies from The Sweet Spot along with gift cards for a future treat, while Queen City High School presented each trustee with an iron logo crafted by the Ag Department and a Texas Roadhouse gift card. Thoughtful thank-you cards, drawings, handwritten notes, and other tokens of appreciation filled the table, serving as a heartfelt reminder of the impact these leaders have on our students and staff.

It was standing room only at Eugene Sloan Memorial Gymnasium as Bulldogs poured in to officially welcome Kevin Reaves as the new Executive Director of Athletics and newest member of the Bulldog Family.
QCISD Superintendent Dr. Casey Nichols opened the evening by greeting the packed house and highlighting Coach Reaves’ extensive accomplishments and leadership journey before introducing him to the crowd.
As Coach Reaves stepped to the microphone, the buzzing fell silent, and the audience leaned in as he shared his beliefs, coaching philosophies, and a firm commitment to a growth mindset in every aspect of life. Drawing on his time serving in the U.S. Navy, Coach Reaves delivered a powerful message, declaring he was ready to “hoist the anchor, set the ship right, and storm every beach life lays in front of him,” while inviting the entire Bulldog community to join him on that journey.

Coach Reaves brings a powerful blend of championship experience, servant leadership, and a heart for kids to Queen City. A proud family man, Coach Reaves has coached both of his sons from youth ball through high school, including an appearance at the 2018 4A D2 State Championship game with his youngest, Bladen. His wife, Keely, has been coaching alongside him in Jefferson, and their family proudly represents every path to success—college athletics, the U.S. Marine Corps (oldest son, Jake), and trade education.
Coach Reaves believes his role is to help every coach and every student-athlete grow—spiritually, personally, academically, and athletically. Goal setting and character development will be prominent fixtures in practice schedules, as well as the strength and conditioning program as he leads Bulldog Athletics into a new era.

A policy change regarding the use of E-Cigarettes and vape pens passed by the 88th Texas Legislature will impact our discipline practices starting with the 23-24 school year.
House Bill 114 (HB 114) was voted into law to address the increasing concerns around e-cigarettes, vaping, marijuana, and THC-related products among our youth. The Bill mandates that any student found in possession of, under the influence of, selling, gifting, or delivering these substances on or within a 300-feet radius of any school premises, will be immediately removed and placed in a Disciplinary Alternative Education Program (DAEP). Pursuant to the TEC Code 39.053, the QCISD Board of Trustees will conduct a public hearing on July 31 at
6:00 PM at the Thornton Administration Office concerning the evaluation of the effectiveness of SCE
interventions for students failing to meet the EOC standards.
An accident at Morris Upchurch Middle School earlier today resulted in one of the stage curtains catching on fire. Cass County firefighters were called to the scene and quickly extinguished it. Thankfully, there was minimal damage and no injuries, and the clean-up process has already started. QCISD thanks all the first responders for their speedy response and help today.
PNP Schools and Equitable Services Required Notification
Queen City High School is thrilled to announce that Chauncett Miles has been selected as a Terry Scholar at the University of Texas at Arlington. The Terry Foundation Scholarship will provide full tuition and beyond at an estimated value of $120,000. Only 30 freshmen students who will be attending UTA in the fall were selected as Terry Scholars. We are extremely proud of Chauncett for being selected for this award based on academic achievement and demonstrated leadership. Congratulations Chauncett!
